Gardening this year

I didn’t expand my garden like I wanted this year, but at least I have a garden going. The chickens kept eating the seeds and sprouts until I finally put a temporary garden fence around it.

The tomatoes are doing fairly well, but the peas dislike the heat. It isn’t too late to plant Amaranth, if just for salad greens. The sweet corn isn’t too high, but I supposed it’s still early in the season. The mung beans sprouted faster than I anticipated so I may have to put in something for them to climb up on.

I also have my old “Earthboxes” which contain a couple of pepper plant in one, tarragon and onion in another. I snuck the pepper plants in before I let the chickens out of the coop and I’m surprised that they haven’t pecked at them yet. Of course, there’s plenty of green around now, so they lost interest quickly.

Here’s hoping that this year is more productive than the last. I managed to get 3 or four tomatoes from my plants before the chickens discovered them.
